On September 8, 2016 a dream came true. Fashion designer in the making René Mejía presented a capsule collection at The Art Institute fashion show during New York Fashion Week. This show is well expected among the fashion industry because it gives the audience and media the chance to meet firsthand the big fashion designers of the near future. One of them is René Mejía. For the event, 60 collections were submitted and only 9 were selected, and lucky for Mejía, he was one of them. The young designer represented The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. The collection was inspired by the 1873’s Edgar Degas Painting of the Rehearsal of the Ballerinas. The silhouettes and color pallet as well as the fabrics were directly selected because of the painting’s influence on the designer.
