Countdown for the Met Gala:  facts to know about this year’s exhibition

The Met Gala, the most highly renowned fundraising benefit that serves as an opening celebration for the Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Everyone knows about it, but only celebritiesanod the most influential people in the industry are invited to attend to the Gala.

However, each year, The Metropolitan Museum of Arts announces the gala theme, matching the exhibition it precedes. This year’s exhibition will present the renown fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019); who has worked for Chanel, Chloé and Fendi.

Karl Otto Lagerfeldt was a German fashion designer, creative director, artist and photographer, best known for the revival of Chanel. The Met exhibition will be focused on the designer’s stylistic vocabulary and aesthetic that appeared in his fashions from the 1950’s to 2019, presenting approximately 150 pieces on display, accompanied by Lagerfeld’s sketches to explore the complex evolution of his fashion from two dimensional to real life.

The title “Line of Beauty” is anchored by Lagerfeld’s modernist and historic tendencies, exploring the two different representation that the designer returned to, over again, with the conclusion of the satirical line; a section that focuses the ironic, playful and whimsical expressions reflected around the ingenious designer.

The show’s opening will be taken place in May 1, 2023, located in The Met Fifth Avenue, The Tisch Galleries, Gallery 899, Floor 2, with the exhibition dates from May 5 to July 16, 2023. The tickets are free for Members, Patrons, and children under 12, but for those who wish to obtain the general admission, it’s $30 for adults; $22 for seniors; $17 for students.
