  • Live art at The Black Tape Project

Live art at The Black Tape Project

By Lourdes Nicolle Martínez, co-founder & Editor in Chief

BLACK TAPE PROJECT closed the Art Hearts Fashion shows during Miami Swim Week making a grand finale with the artistry and barely-there designs the brand is famous for. Creator Joel Alvarez live-taped a model on the runway, demonstrating his strategically placed tape art and alternative fashion designs.

In between creations, models strut down the runway with beautiful tape mosaic forming one piece swimsuits and bikinis shaping to perfection the woman’s body.

Will it resist water and sun? Will be comfortable to wear outside the runway? We don’t have answers to that but we are sure that each look in itself is a unique work of art.

  • Under the sea with OMG Swimwear

Under the sea with OMG Swimwear

By Lourdes Nicolle Martínez, co-founder & Editor in Chief

Can you imagine what would real life mermaids would look like? Well OMG Swimwear showed everyone what their vision is at their Art Hearts fashion show during Miami Swim Week.

The brand presented their collection “New Pearl” for Resort 2022 inspired by mermaids and the depths of the sea. “New Pearl” was a sensual collection that showcased the thong as main bottom cut and peals adding a luxurious detail to the metallic swimwear.

Without a doubt the show was an ode to feminine curves.

Miami Swim Week 2021 – All you need to know

By Lourdes Nicolle Martínez, Editor in Chief

Just like a tornado of fashion, fun and emotions, Miami Swim Week arrived and took the world by storm. With 2 main events running at the same time, and many other independent ones all over Miami Beach, we can officially say that fashion is back!

    Paraiso Miami Beach

Collins Park served as the location for the renown Paraiso tent where veteran and up-and-coming designers came together to showcase wat will be trending on resort wear for 2022.

Paraiso started a conversation about the direct-to-consumer model, how the pandemic shifted buying, styling, dressing, and personal habits resulting in an explosion in consumer spending and a dramatic edit in business strategy as a pivot in response to quarantine. This topic was abuzz at the industry panel discussion during a luncheon by  Courvoisier with experts from Gorgias, Omnisend, and Okendo.

The designer line up was as hot at the temperatures, hosting shows from Jonathan Simkhai, Sinesia Karol, Liliana Montoya Swim, Luli Fama, Maaji, Palmacea, PQ swim, CHROMAT, Bfyne, Mery Playa, My Happy and many more. Backstage hair and makeup was in charge of the beauty brand Kevin Murphy.

    Art Hearts Fashion

Art Hearts Fashion brought over 30 illustrious designers to the Faena Forum. Exquisite collections by the hottest emerging and renowned designers drew hundreds of guests each night. Influencers and cosmopolites flocked to private afterparties and collaborations throughout the city.

The fashion and beauty trends seen on the catwalk were made possible by Official Beauty Sponsor Runway Rogue, Official Haircare Sponsor Pureology, and Official Makeup Tool Sponsor Japonesque.

The brand line-up included NATALIA FEDNER, Giannina Azar, Keva J Swimwear, Mister Triple X, OMG SWIMWEAR, Lila Nikole Collection, CAMILLA, Hale Bob and BLACK TAPE PROJECT, among many others.

    Cabana Show

Because of the lack of time between shows, we could only visit Cabana Show. This is one of the resort wear trade shows operating during Miami Swim Week. On the floor as we walked down the aisles we took a glimpse on 2022 resort trends coming to the boutiques and major department stores.

On 2022 resort wear will maintain chic and glamorous. Kaftans are still IN and flowy and ruffled puffy sleeves dresses in pastel colors (definitely pink and purple is in) will be on trends. And for a glam look, golden threads will be the new luxury detail.

From what I saw, accessories and jewelry will stay really similar to this years trends where layering, chains and minimal pendants were on trend. When talking about footwear, prepare for ultra puffy and crystal embellished sandals.

Cabana Show offered guests their popular coconut water, had waxing and bracelet making stations and so much more.

If we could resume the most important highlights of Miami Beach we could definitely say:

    • Inclusion was real on the runway. Many of the brands had not only a good representation of black, asian and latin models, but they when far from the expected plus size, integrating petite and curvier plus size models. The message got through that every body is beautiful and that swimwear is intentionally design for everyone to wear and enjoy.
    • It was not a big men swimwear year. The options presented were really limited so you can expect a more capsule and personal approach of brands to resort wear for men for 2022.
    • People enjoyed the shows and needed to get out. Is not a secret that lockdown got us trapped at home, so invitees from all around the world arrived to Miami Beach to see the shows, meet new people and have fun while celebrating the fashion industry making a comeback. And the energy was definitely felt.

But now I can just hope that you don’t miss any of our complete and exclusive coverage… designer interviews, backstage and runway photos and videos, our opinion about the collections and so much more!
