Mia Marcelle presented “Souk to Sea”, one of the three Resort 2018 collections showcased at the Cali Dreams show at the Swimmiami Tent. This 70’s inspired proposal consisted mostly of one piece swimsuits with ruffles, deep cleaves, bare backs and strings exposing the side of the ribcage and hips.
Also, some resort pieces like robes, maxi dresses, skirts and kaftans complimented the high waisted swimwear and the low rise bikinies. The color scheme on the runway started with orange shades, followed by burgundy, blues and light pink. Flower wallpaper-like prints from the 70’s were integrated along with solid colors and metallic fabrics in antique bronce.
Some pieces turn to the more glamorous and elegant side with the use of velvet on the swimsuit and turban. To accessorize the collection, turbans, body jewelry and big earrings were selected by the designer.
Another Miami Swim Week debut was Salty Mermaid’s Resort 2018 show at the Swimmiami tent. Titled “South Africa” this swimwear collection proposed an artistic approach to the country by exhibiting colorful tribal prints.
As brand co-owner Kara Versage described on the Salty Mermaid’s blog : “[t]he majestic sunsets, colors and natural beauty of Africa inspired our 2018 collection. Vibrant oranges and reds, shades of pink, and intense golden yellows came together and made our heart skip a beat. We knew we wanted to bring those colors to life through our swimsuits. Bright colors, intricate patterns and vivid motifs create swimsuits that make you feel alive and have you dancing from sunrise to sunset.”
The proposal also showcased tassels as main details and the models wore Snapchat sunglasses down the runway to add a pop of color and record from a different perspective what was happening during the show.

Thinking about her celebrity clients list which includes Nicki Minaj, Ashanti, Lil’ Kim, Mya and Blac Chyna among many others, Brinks wants to bring contemporary hip hop, r & B and rap glam to every woman. From the runway show we could understand why the designer has been named the “Queen of leggings and couture body suits”. The over the top collection is more appropriate for a party than a pool, adding sexiness to the swimwear and resort pieces with details like sheer cutouts, sequins, pearls and crystals.

Gottex took over Swimmiami’s Wet Deck at the W South Beach pool to present to the media, buyers and guests their Cruise 2018 collection. The show displayed their three labels PROFILE SPORT, PROFILE and GOTTEX COLLECTION & COUTURE.
The PROFILE SPORT proposal showed classic shapes that were reinterpreted to include functional waterproof silicone zippers with long zip pullers, mesh texture overlays, inner power mesh and UV protective properties. Scuba styles featured ombre multicolored flat-lock stitches, while a sharp 1980’s spirit was referenced through geometric shapes, modernized with hazy hues and blurred edges. Fashion met functionality with the new high-performance bold graphic rubber print with royal blue and black color blocking. The ultimate sporty, elegant and contemporary look featured multi-colored bindings on black cage-like cutouts, creating a bold statement, while still maintaining a feminine edge.
PROFILE followed with a contemporary take on femininity featuring globally inspired bold and eye-catching tribal prints in stunning colors with cheeky sheer inserts and cutouts and strappy macramé. Futuristic black, silver, strappy and sexy styles shined on dramatic one-shoulder and high-necklines, while the new mineral geode print in organic earthy tones ranging from cool aquas to deep lapis’ and amethysts were featured on high-neck choker and strappy detailed silhouettes. The classic color palette was updated to include deep wines and forest greens, as well as beautiful and bold blues, pinks, reds and corals on new off-the-shoulder ruffle designs, strappy deep-V’s and braided cutouts. The newest print, the mineral geode showcased organic colors ranging from cool aqua to deep lapis and amethyst.
And to close the show, GOTTEX COLLECTION & COUTURE presented a collection inspired in African black and white prints and modern animal prints such as peacock feathers and leopard patterns, as well as vivacious-colored floral prints and embroideries and sophisticated and rich multicolor geometric prints.
The new Couture subcategory was a continuation of the Jewel Box 60th Anniversary Collection. Couture was an exclusive and prestigious swimwear collection designed for the chic modern woman, made of the highest quality, fashion and innovation from the international swimwear design house, GOTTEX. Couture used the most unique and luxurious Italian fabrics, embroideries and techniques to make you feel exceptionally glamorous and elegant. This collection included elegant fabric, unique printing techniques, embroideries and luxurious lace in black, grey, black and white, gold, bronze, silver, and ocean shades of blue. The styles were extremely detailed with interesting cuts that flattered the figure, including inserts of different fabrics, textured fabrics and gold accessories. Some styles included exclusive embroideries and lace, as well as unique glitter prints and silver lamination. Sexy backs, one shoulders, and strap details were a strong motif in the collection.

Mostly composed by black, the color palette was very specific, displaying mostly white, pink and yellow as main shades, while giving a twist to the pieces with green, nude and red. Flower prints were incorporated on the swimwear, contrasting with the solid color pieces that walked down the catwalk.
This collection offered a broader range of choices for resort such as crochet dresses and skirts, knit sweaters, lace crop tops, harem pants and sheer jumpsuits. The designer added drama to the selection by styling the swimwear pieces with giant flower crowns, huge fur coats and belts.

South Beach was truly HAHt-As-Hell as the brand officially kicked off the weekend, drawing celebrities, tastemakers, major media and buyers to SWIMMIAMI’s LYCRA Swim Salon at the W Hotel & Residences. HAH | Hot-As-Hell launched just last season and the 2017 runway collection, ‘Le Jardin de HAH’ proves the trailblazer in eco-conscious swimwear is nothing but booming.
Ballerinas, moms and kids, oh my! The show kicked off with an unreal performance of Fever by Caroline Vreeland and kept the surprises coming for the entire show. Hot-As-Hell expanded from swim, lingerie and beach lifestyle apparel into childrenswear, maternity and bridal dubbing the new children’s wear line, Hot-as-Halo.. Dainty pastel lace contrasted by radiant sunshine tones floated along the runway to the sounds of Beyonce’s Lemondade poetry.
HAH’s Spring 2017 collection was inspired by the origins of natural beauty – mother earth. Le Jardin de HAH is symbolic of the brand’s roots in natural, ethical product for women. This is seen and felt across the entire collection – from a rich color palette inspired by the sun and the sky to intricate original prints, hand drawn and digitally printed. This season’s print story highlights the dichotomy of beauty vs. the challenges inherent in nature.
Crowd favorite model, Sam Blacky’s personality shined through as she flipped the bird in true Hot-As-Hell fashion. Cheeky high-waisted bottoms and reversible one-pieces stole the show. Vintage recycled Adidas bombers covered in custom patches by LA tattoo artist, dirtyneedle, embodied the brand’s sustainability initiatives. Contrasted by black oriental prints, delicate lace accents highlighted models, moms, children and expecting mothers beautiful curves of all kinds.
The message here is that we are in control of whether lightness or darkness ultimately prevails. Through eco-friendly design and manufacture HAH on the side of light, and proves it’s never too late to #startsomewhere.

Frankies Bikinis presented their Resort 2017 collection at Swimmiami during Swim Week 2017. The Wet Pool at the W South Beach Hotel became center stage for the fun, young and free fashion show. Designer Francesca Aiello blasted the runway with energy, showing guests the new collection inspired by the 60’s. There were lots of sexy bikinis, body paintings , flowers, signs, belly-bottom jeans and attitude. Aiello wants woman to feel feel beautiful and empowered when they put on a Frankies bikini, and confirms that nothing says female empowerment like the 1960’s.
With original prints, criss-cross and crochet, Frankies Bikinis possitions itself once again among the favorites shows at Swim Week.
“I’m always inspired by my hometown Malibu and the carefree girls who live there and who are always running around in their bikinis,” Aiello said. “We have five new silhouettes this year. One of my favorites is called the ‘Mimi’ and it’s a halter top but we twisted it up by doing a cut out in the center to make it sexier and then we added the Frankies crochet touch up top”.

As a key ingredient in many swimsuit brands, the LYCRA® brand was once again a presence during Miami Swim Week and sponsored the LYCRA® SWIM SALON during SWIMMIAMI, July 14-17, 2016. The salon was a new tented venue located on the grounds of the exclusive W South Beach hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. A series of four swimwear runway fashion shows featuring swimwear by Hot-As-Hell, Robb & Lulu, Baes & Bikinis and San Lorenzo were held at the salon. These brands use LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ fiber in their swimwear collections because it resists breakage and fit loss caused by chlorine and sunscreen, and lasts up to ten times longer than unprotected spandex.
An invitation-only cocktail party was hosted by the LYCRA® brand at the LYCRA® SWIM SALON on Saturday, at the W Southbeach hotel. This was followed by a presentation on LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ fiber by Pattie Ficorilli, INVISTA Senior Marketing Manager for Swim. A live model showcase featuring trends created in collaboration with Stijlinstituut Amsterdam, where the 2018 swimwear trends were brought to life. Finally, guests previewed the new LYCRA® brand global swim video that highlights the unrivalled benefits LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ fiber delivers to swimwear. The new global brand video will be made available to brands and fabric mills to promote the quality of their swimwear and fabric selection using LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™.
“Miami Swim Week gives us a wonderful opportunity to engage with our partner brands and showcase the newest fabric innovations to the global swimwear community,” said Ficorilli. “Fabrics using our LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ fiber are the favorite choice of swimwear brands around the globe, and we enjoy being able to educate both new and established brands about our technological developments, trends in the industry and connect them to key fabric mills from around the globe.”
