Why did you titled your collection at Dominicana Moda 2014 “Serie 034”?

As I stated in the concept of the collection, it is designed based on experiences of my childhood in my hometown Mao, rice fields and sunsets that I enjoyed since childhood and how I view women dressed, taking as inspiration the natural beauty of my hometown Mao.

From all this show of majestic sunsets turned out my color chart for the collection and the prints were the portrait of rice paddies from my point of view.

Mao is known as The City Beautiful Sunsets and rice is an innate produce.

If you take this into consideration and you check the number of all “maeños” on their identity and electoral card, all “maeños” are # Serie034, my collection speaks of roots and identity, love for what is ours and appreciate the little things that our earth gives us.

What more do you remember from your childhood?

My childhood was great, I have many good memories, my first pet Barry, my first horse, going fishing with the cousins, cycling through the town, participating in tennis tournaments. I was a child very active, but my best memories and my great friends came from dance and theater.

When I was a child of five years, I would ask Francisca Colón (Doña Kika) to put me to act and dance in school and from there my story was different, dance and theater aroused my passions for painting and arts, that brought me to enter into cultural groups in my town and from there everything came along, started designing for local troupes that then began to compete nationally and I kept designing for them.

I have many good memories and great friendships born from those moments, I still meet my childhood friends, always talking about the same things and not getting bored about them. My childhood memories today are alive in each of my friends and brothers who I thank for these experiences, people I love and respect with their flaws and virtues.

What experiences in your childhood have influenced and shaped the designer you are today?

As I said earlier, everything began with Doña Kika at Cherubim school in Mao. Another experience that marked me was to have a teacher like Maika Santana. She trained me in art education in high school and I could not have a better example of passion, love and dedication.

From my childhood I learned thanks to my grandparents and mother to respect others: their thinking and their decisions, that I should live my life assuming responsibly and the results of my actions and what I do. That small town training, the family, and to surround yourself with people with values and people who really care about you makes you become a better human being and to feel the responsibility to be better every day.

As a child I learned to fall in love with the people and not their bank accounts and purchasing power. I learned to appreciate the little things in life and that I have to sacrifice myself for everything I want. I tell you, when I came to Santo Domingo to study a degree in Advertising I told my grandparent that I needed a computer, he told me “if you want one you should buy it yourself” and  then I slowly collected my money spent a few months saving it before I bought my first computer. The same happened with my first car. Since childhood I have been taught that everything in life is achieved through effort and sacrifice; that what easy comes, easy goes and that luck does not exists. That only exists preparation accompanied by opportunity and that’s why I always prepare myself to keep grown up.

How Carlos De Moya sees himself in 5 years?

I will not deny that I have sometimes thought about it, but I live the today with all that it brings; tomorrow will come with good and bad news and I will assume it with the same passion that I face it every day. However, when I think about it, I’d love to see my projects more developed, a women’s clothing line in various stores with my name or some shops with the logo of my brand and my child clothing line Vittoria in some department stores, to see Consultor de Moda with its radio show and handling some fashion brands. Each of these projects is backed by a different group of expert team in every area. I am not alone, but there we go, God will slowly put things in place and what will therefore be will be and what will not he will know why takes it off of my way, I have put all my faith in His perfect plan for me.

What advice would you offer children of your town who are passionate about fashion?

Not only my for people, I will give them the same advice my grandfather gave me when I finished college, he said:

“My son, no matter what you study or what you do for work for life, if  is worthy, even if you’re going to spend it as a pastry maker, be the best pastry maker in the country so that everyone will buy from you”

This are very flat words that say  a lot. Whatever you are going to do (whatever) do it with passion, identify what you love to do, specialize on it, do it well and put a price to it. if you do this, you will never work.
