One of the components that made our trip to Dominican Republic to cover the 11th edition of Dominicana Moda one of a kind was our hotel stay. Thanks to the Office of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic in Puerto Rico and its director Lilianl Reyes we were able to enjoy all that the Barceló Santo Domingo Hotel offers. Formerly known as the Hotel Lina, and mentioned in the song “Me enamoro de ella” by Juan Luis Guerra when he mentions “She in a tennis club, I sometimes play billiards, she lunches in the Lina, I in a social dining room (traduction from spanish)”, The hotel is very luxurious and full of stories and nightlife.

Located in the center of the city, the Barceló Hotel is a very spacious one. It has a casino, a pastry shop, a swimming pool, gym, an esthetic and beauty salon,  and a play area for children. Known as a place of prestige and luxury, the hotel lobby represents much more than that. A modern decoration full of details wherever you look, it pleases the arrival, often of people tired of work and long journeys. Several areas delimited with sofas of different sizes, shapes and colors, invite you to sit and meet as people walk by. It should be mentioned that front desk employees are very attentive and ready to help in any situation or need that may arise.

We finally arrived at the hotel, after going through the usual traffic of Santo Domingo and all we thought was to go to our rooms to rest. Our wish came true and to our surprise, the rooms (always a concern in my travels) was very nice. Decorated in an eclectic way, the room featured modern elements combined with more rustic ones. Very comfortable and complete, with dining table, desk, TV, fridge, iron, coffee maker with complimentary coffee and water, and safe. Before my eyes, everything a person who travels for work or seeks comfort when traveling needs was in his room. The bed was full of super comfy pillows and the matress did not itch and made me sleep like a baby.

We spent breakfasts and lunches at the hotel buffet. First, the decor of the spacious dining room was a very modern, elegant and chic one. Hot and cold food stations waited for guests. I will abound more about the details of the food in another article, but I have to say that the food was excellent; we never fell ill and it was always made with fresh ingredients and few condiments. And talking about desserts, in addition to the delights of the buffet, the hotel has Patisserie Lina, a pastry shop that has been sweetening the palate of locals and visitors for decades, offering its famous frozen Cake. I will also abound about our experience in that article.

For those who like nightlife, the Barceló has a Sushi restaurant, casino and the famous Piano Bar and its Cigar Room. At the Piano Bar you can enjoy live music, dancing, appetizers and lots of drinks. It was surprising to see how busy it is by locals. Every time we walked in, we saw multiple birthdays being held there. It was a good place to have a nice time and have some fun.

Always full of people, it is a place where men and women of business and even artists are found. To our surprise, we met and talked with merengue singer Manny Manuel and television presenter José “El Negro” Figueroa

Several days of work are not enough to enjoy everything that this charming hotel offers. Recommended 100% for anyone who wants to visit this beautiful capital, Santo Domingo
